DISTRICT COURT AND HMP MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

The Community Dispute Settlement Center (CDSC) provides mediation services, training in mediation and training in conflict resolution throughout Middlesex County and beyond. One of the oldest community mediation centers in Massachusetts, CDSC offers mediation for both court and community cases. The District Court and HMP Manager is
a key staff position and oversees some of CDSC’s most important functions.

OBJECTIVE:
To oversee the scheduling of the Cambridge, Waltham and Woburn District Court sessions for Small Claims and Summary Process; and to manage CDSC’s HMP program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee all aspects of the District Court program for Small Claims cases and Summary Process cases, including scheduling mediations, scheduling mediators, follow up with mediators. Work with Practicum Supervisor to schedule Practicum participants, including scheduling, observing and providing feedback to the Supervisor and to CDSC regarding
participant performance. Create and distribute documents for new mediators and Practicum participants, including orientation materials, information on court policies and procedures.

Oversee all aspects of CDSC’s Housing Mediation Program including intake; scheduling mediation sessions and mediators, eliciting feedback and observations from session mediators; providing feedback to Practicum participants. Participate in all MOPC-required trainings and meetings.

Participate in semi-annual Basic Mediation Trainings as lead trainer, and other workshops and trainings as required. Assist with Zoom technology.

Collaborate with all CDSC staff to provide information for reporting to the Board of Directors, private and public donors.

Collaborate with all CDSC staff on roundtables and continuing education events.

Act as primary contact with district courts, including relaying information regarding closures, delays and other court policies and procedures.

Act as primary contact with organizations, including law schools, interested in attending court mediations as an observer.

Train and supervise interns and volunteers.


Reports to the Executive Director.

Performs any additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with mediation, particularly in court settings.

Familiarity with court procedures and community legal resources.

Familiarity with housing and homelessness issues, including eviction prevention.

Experience in working with volunteers, including scheduling and logistical responsibilities.

Proven ability to work independently and creatively.

Comfortable using office technology, including Zoom, Excel, MS Word, Google Documents and Google Sheets.

Excellent written and verbal skills.

OTHER:
Work will be performed in an office setting. CDSC will operate on a hybrid schedule, with both virtual and in-person workdays. Candidates must be able to participate in lengthy virtual and in-person meetings throughout the workday. Candidates must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Candidates must be able
to use office technology (laptops, telephones, copies, scanners, etc.) continually.
