Hands-on Skill Development in Divorce Practice for Mediators

This 3 day course is designed for mediators who are interested in the practice of divorce mediation. The training integrates substantive information with practice through interactive roleplay experience.

Prerequisite: 30-hour Basic Mediation Training.

Topics covered in Divorce Mediation Training

I. Overview of Divorce & Parenting Issues 9:30-5
The complexity of divorce: legal and psychological aspects. Co-parenting plans and their impact on the children. Relevant Massachusetts law. Framework for unmarried couples.

II. Financial Issues: Child Support, Alimony & Property Division 9:30-5
Focus on child support guidelines and financial issues including spousal support/alimony, equitable division of the marital estate. Introducing and managing these topics in the mediation session.

III. Reaching Closure 9:30-5
Drafting final product. Challenging issues. Ethical and practice dilemmas.
